is a ski resort in northern Italy. It’s part of the Dolomiti Superski area, which encompasses the Falzarego Pass, with its downhill runs. The Tofane area is the site of a Women’s Ski World Cup race and Cortina Snow Park for jumps and tricks.

Cortina d'Ampezzo (Ladin: Anpezo, Ampëz), commonly referred to as Cortina, is a town and comune in the heart of the southern (Dolomitic) Alps in the Veneto region of Northern Italy. Situated on the Boite river, in an alpine valley, it is a winter sport resort known for its skiing trails, scenery, accommodation, shops and après-ski scene, and for its jet set and aristocratic European crowd. The town is home to SG Cortina, a top league professional ice hockey team, and Cortina is also the start and end point of the annual Dolomites Gold Cup Race.

To travel by plane, the most convenient airports for the Dolomites and Cortina d'Ampezzo are those of Northern Italy, Innsbruck and Munich. Cortina d'Ampezzo, Tourism

With some of Italy's best-groomed trails (and awards to prove it), ski lifts right from the center of town, and a classy ambience second only to Cortina d'Ampezzo, Cortina d'Ampezzo is no longer a secret of Italian skiers. Its location in the Brenta Dolomites, north of Lake Garda and Verona, is not as easily accessed as the better-known Dolomite resorts to the east, but once here, skiers will find enough snow and terrain to keep them busy for a vacation. The more than 150 kilometers of trails and slopes include the expert-challenging 5.75-kilometer Dolomitica, with its 70 percent gradient, and skiing doesn't stop at sundown on the equally challenging Canalone Miramonti, which is lighted for night skiing. Intermediates will appreciate the well-groomed cruisers, and the Ursus Snow Park for freestylers is considered one of Europe's best. The après-ski scene is chic, and there's plenty more to do besides skiing, as the four villages offer cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering, ice-skating, snowshoe trails, a toboggan slope, dog sledding, and ice climbing. For the entire month of December, the town becomes a fairyland of lights and holiday decorations, with a Christmas market of little cabins selling local crafts and foods.

Cortina d'Ampezzo: the skiing area in the Dolomites with the very special flair

Near the bridge on the Bigontina River is the Town Hall, a palace in the Tyrolean style. Piazza Venezia houses several landmarks. The Ciasa de ra Regoles is one of the more important legal buildings in Cortina, where the "regolieri" — a council for the local villages that stood before the town merged — trained the community and gave administrative orders. It was at one time the center of Ampezzo's administration. Currently, it contains the offices of Comunanza Regole and the Modern Art Museum "Mario Rimoldi". The building also contains the office of the Scuola Sci Cortina, Cortina's skiing school. The town is well equipped with hotels in every range, smart shops (this is the most fashionable of the Dolomite resorts by far), restaurants, cafés, and several spas. If jet-set glamour is part of your Italy ski dream, you'll find it here. But you can also find mid-range lodgings in Cortina, such as the chalet-style Hotel Natale, with magnificent views from its carved wooden balconies...

So pack your bags and grab your passport because you’re going to want to book a flight to best Italy Ski Resort, Cortina d'Ampezzo!
