The villages of Saalbach and Hinterglemm, near Salzburg, combine with the nearby resorts of Leogang and Fieberbrunn to make Austria's most extensive linked trail network, with some of its most modern and sophisticated lift systems. Despite the comparatively low altitude (1,003 meters and 1,060 meters respectively), the resort's good snow history has made it one of Austria's most popular.
The combined terrain, called the SkiCircus, forms a ring of mountains, which total more than 200 kilometers of ski runs served by 62 lifts. These are arranged in such a way that ambitious skiers can make a circuit rather than repeating the same runs. New lifts include the Kohlmaisbahn, a 10-person gondola, and Asitzmuldenbahn, an eight-person high-speed detachable chairlift with bubble covers and seat heating.
The region is especially good for families and for beginning and intermediate skiers, including enough terrain so that they can sample plenty of variety and with runs that stretch the entire 1,000-meter vertical. Ski runs go right into the centers of Saalbach and Hinterglemm.
Saalbach, the larger of the two villages right at the base of the slopes, is a traditional Austrian mountain village enhanced with boutiques and upscale hotels. Hinterglemm is quieter, more budget-friendly, and better for families. Free ski buses connect Saalbach-Hinterglemm and Leogang.
The Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn is a winter sports area in the Austrian federal state of Salzburg. It extends on both sides of the valley over the mountains of the Glemmtal and has a link to Leogang and to Fieberbrunn, in Tyrol. Because the area is laid out around the valley and the municipality of Saalbach-Hinterglemm the name "Skicircus" was chosen. The Schattberg is a 2,097 m (AA) high mountain in the Kitzbühel Alps in the Austrian state of Salzburg. The Schattberg is the local mountain for the Pinzgau parish of Saalbach-Hinterglemm, that lies about 3 kilometres to the north. It forms the end of a mountain ridge that runs from the 2,249 m high Hochkogel over the 2,092 m high Saalbachkogel and the 2,123 m high Stemmerkogel to the north. To the west is the Schwarzachgraben stream, to the east the valley of the Löhnersbach which descends into the Glemmtal. The mountain has three peaks: the West Schattberg (Schattberg West) 2,096 m, the Middle Schattberg (Mittelgipfel) 2,097 m and the East Schattberg (Schattberg-Ost) 2,018 m, which is northeast of the Dillinger Eck (1,875 m).
The Glemmtal in the Austrian state of Salzburg is the valley of the roughly 30 km long upper reaches of the River Saalach. It belongs to the northern Pinzgau region and separates the Kitzbühel Alps in an east-west direction. Its main settlement is the village of Saalbach in Zell am See district. The Saalbach flows through the upper 10 km of the valley, whose largest headstream, the Schwarzenbach, rises at about 1800 m above sea level between the Geißstein, the Tristkogel and the Spieleckkogel mountains.
