Welcome to Heraklion, Crete, Greece VIP services

Heraklion, also known as Iraklio, is a port city and the capital of the Greek island of Crete. It’s known for the Palace of Knossos, just outside the city. The huge archaeological site dates back thousands of years to the Minoan civilization, and includes frescoes and baths. Guarding the city’s Venetian port is the 16th-century Koules fortress. Heraklion Archaeological Museum has a large collection of Minoan art. Heraklion or Iraklion (Greek: Ηράκλειο, Irákleio) is the largest city and the administrative capital of the island of Crete and capital of Heraklion regional unit. It is the fourth largest city in Greece with a population of about 140,000 according to the 2011 census. The population of the municipality was over 170,000. The Bronze Age palace of Knossos, also known as the Palace of Minos, is located nearby. Heraklion was Europe’s fastest growing tourism destination for 2017, according to Euromonitor, with an 11.2% growth in international arrivals. According to the ranking, Heraklion was ranked as the 20th most visited region in Europe, as the 66th area on the Planet and as the 2nd in Greece for the year 2017, with 3.2 million visitors and the 19th in Europe for 2018, with 3,4 million visitors.

Iraklio or Iraklion the birthplace of El Greco and Nikos Kazantzakis can at first seem a nightmare, particularly if you arrive expecting to see a picturesque little island town. Heraklion is Crete's biggest city (among Chania, Rethimno, Agios Nikolaos, Sitia, Ierapetra), whose emblem is the Venetian fortress of Koules and it harmoniously combines a multilingual past as Byzantine churches standing next to the Venetian mansions and Turkish fountains and a thriving present with many restaurants, coffee shops and bars that cater to every taste. Heraklion or Iraklion has undergone a significant makeover in recent years - this is a result of being chosen as an Olympic city ...partly bu mostly because of the city's increasing prosperity. Infrastructure works have included redevelopment of the waterfront ( have a nice walk there ), improved roads and a city bypass to ease traffic congestion and maybe the most important much of the historic centre has been turned into pleasant pedestrian strips. Let's see how you could spent one or two days in Heraklion. Crete Vip services in Heraklion: helicopter flight transfers, luxury cars rental - hire, motor yacht charter, yachting...

Tourism in Heraklion, Crete, Greece VIP services

Welcome to Heraklion! Tourism in Crete has been a key element of the economic activity in the island, and is one of the country's most important sectors. Crete island has been a major tourist destination and attraction in Europe since the 1970s for its rich culture and history, which is reflected in large part by its UNESCO World Heritage Sites, among the most in Europe and the world as well as for its long coastline, many islands, and beaches. Modern day Heraklion is a holiday resort, tourism and commerce are the main economic activities in the town, with plenty of hotels, restaurants, gift shops, bars and nightclubs. Heraklion city is also a major cruise destination. Beyond the crazed progress of moped riders, noisy scooters and a battered, out-of-control look to the city, there is much to do and plenty of things worth seeing. Apart from shopping and the designer clothes on Daedalou Street ("Daydaloo"), there are many small shops off all the main streets which sell those local products which normally are used when you live in Crete. Just have a look along 1866 Street and more so its side streets - you may find a curio distinctly different from more typical "gifts" offered to visitors in gift shops. The famous tourist attraction, the Saturday market that was by the port, an almost kilometre long display of fruit and vegetables and sundry items - has now sadly moved to an obscure suburb. This is a brief guide to some of the well known and some less well known enjoyments and rewards of Heraklion.

Heraklion is an important shipping port and ferry dock. Travellers can take ferries and boats from Heraklion to destinations including Santorini, Ios Island, Paros, Mykonos, and Rhodes. There are direct ferries to Naxos, Karpathos, Kasos, Sitia, Anafi, Chalki and Diafani. There are also several daily ferries to Piraeus, the port of Athens in mainland Greece. Heraklion International Airport (IATA: HER, ICAO: LGIR), or Nikos Kazantzakis Airport is located about 5 kilometres (3 miles) east of the city. The airport is named after Heraklion native Nikos Kazantzakis, a writer and a philosopher. It is the second busiest airport of Greece after Athens International Airport, first in charter flights and the 65th busiest in Europe, because of Crete being a major holiday destination with 7.974.887 travellers in 2018 (List of the busiest airports in Europe). In April 2018, the inner space of the airport has been modernized and expanded by almost 3.000 s.m., with 11 new gates and new stores. Island of Crete, Vip services in Heraklion

Heraklion has a hot-summer-Mediterranean climate (Csa in the Köppen climate classification). Summers are warm to hot and dry with clear skies. Dry hot days are often relieved by seasonal breezes. Winters are very mild with moderate rain. Because Heraklion is further south than Athens, it has a warmer climate during winter but cooler during summer because of the Aegean sea. Heraklion has plenty of beaches to chose from and Agia Pelagia ranks among the most favorite ones. It has a beautiful pebbly beach with magnificent waters that can get quite popular over the summer months in Crete. Heraklion central market is on 1866 Street, running from the Meidani to Kornarou Square. The Heraklion central market is lined with shops selling souvenirs, cheap clothes and shoes, fruit and vegetables, herbs and spices, cheese and meat, along with small cafés and tavernas. Seven days in Heraklion are enough to discover its secrets: the Venetian harbor and the Walls, ideal for a journey back to history and the modern Heraklion with its squares and walkways full of taverns, ouzo shops, gourmet restaurants and many young people entertaining all night long. Heraklion is great for family holidays, romantic trips and is fantastic for those who are holidays alone, as there is so much to see.
