Skiathos, a Greek island in the northwest Aegean Sea of Greece, is part of the Sporades archipelago. It’s best known for its beaches and buzzing, youth-driven nightlife scene. The action centers around Skiathos Town, where bars and restaurants spill onto sidewalks along the old harbor and Papadiamanti street, the main pedestrian thoroughfare. Between town and the airport are many open-air, waterfront clubs. In the harbor at Skiathos Town, the tiny Bourtzi islet has a shady pine forest and the ruins of a 13th-century Venetian fortress. Koukounaries Beach, on a sheltered bay on the island’s west side, is popular for water sports. Nearby Banana Beach draws the clothing-optional crowd. On the island’s rugged north coast, Lalaria, reached only by boat, is famed for its picturesque pebble beach, aquamarine waters and sea caves. Hiking trails pass secluded beaches and traverse the dense pine forests of the island’s interior, dotted with isolated monasteries.
Skiathos (Greek: Σκιάθος, Skiáthos; Ancient Greek: Ancient Greek: Σκίαθος, Skíathos; Latin forms: Sciathos and Sciathus) is a small Greek island in the northwest Aegean Sea. Skiathos is the westernmost island in the Northern Sporades group, east of the Pelion peninsula in Magnesia on the mainland, and west of the island of Skopelos. Skiathos island has a north to southwestern axis and is about 12 kilometres (7 miles) long and 6 kilometres (4 miles) wide on average. The coastline is indented with inlets, capes and peninsulas. The southeast and southwest parts have gentler slopes and that is where most settlements and facilities are located. The terrain is more rugged on the north coast, with the highest peak at 433 m (1,421 feet) on mount Karafiltzanaka.
